Legislation under consideration by the General Assembly will begin to strip away insurers ability to negotiate preferred networks that help hold down health costs for employers and consumers. 

HB 433 would legislatively mandate that all health benefit plans provide coverage for the dialysis provider of the insured's choice and legislatively mandate that insurers pay the “in network” negotiated rate to any provider.  

This expansion of “in network” provider coverage essentially legislates what should be a private contract negotiation between two companies. Because, non-participating providers are free to balance-bill consumers, many individuals will find them paying more out-of-pocket for these services and many employers may see higher premiums as a result of this legislative mandate.
